The approach to literacy instruction at Quabbin is grounded in the science of reading. We believe all students benefit from a comprehensive phonics instruction in the earliest grades. As students move from early to later elementary grades we strive to provide ELA that incorporates rich, engaging, and diverse texts. The literacy/ELA curriculum in grades kindergarten through fifth is “Into Reading” and in grades sixth to tenth is “Into Literature”. Students in grades 11 and 12 participate in the International Baccalaureate program for ELA.

Our ELA curriculum provides access to a diverse range of viewpoints and experiences. Our curriculum provides windows into the experiences of people with many different experiences and from many different backgrounds. We also want the literature students access to serve as a mirror, we believe it is critical that all students can see themselves and their communities reflected back at them in the stories they read.
